Turning Education Data into National Intelligence

How fragmented school data became a role-based decision-support platform for the Bahamian education system.

Educational Challenge

Schools collect abundant data — assessments, attendance, gradebooks, pacing — but it sits in silos. Teachers lack timely insight, leaders can't see trends, and the Ministry can't allocate resources with confidence. The challenge: turn data into action at every level without adding burden.

Needs Analysis

  • Teachers need standard-level mastery and ready intervention groups.
  • Leaders need trends, at-risk flags, and intervention effectiveness.
  • The Ministry needs equity metrics and resource-allocation signals.
  • Everyone needs privacy and trust.

Platform Design Process

Designed as a SaaS-style decision-support system: a data pipeline → analytics engine → AI recommendation engine → role-based dashboards → reporting → continuous-improvement loop (see Platform).

Data Architecture

A unified, privacy-protected model ingests assessment, attendance, gradebook, and curriculum data; computes mastery, growth, and trends; and exposes role-scoped views with audit trails. (This portfolio build uses illustrative sample data.)

Analytics Framework

Standards mastery, longitudinal growth, cohort comparisons, benchmark gaps, engagement correlation, and an early-warning composite — all visualized for fast comprehension.

AI Integration

An explainable recommendation engine flags needs, predicts outcomes, and suggests actions with confidence and rationale — always human-in-the-loop, bias-monitored, and governed.

Dashboard Design & UX

Six role dashboards (teacher → ministry) share a consistent visual language: KPIs first, then charts, then alerts and recommended actions — so each user sees their decision, not raw data. Accessibility toolbar included.

Implementation Strategy

A phased pilot-to-national rollout with data integration, PD, change management, and governance (see Implementation).

Expected Educational Impact

  • Earlier, more precise intervention
  • Consistent curriculum implementation
  • More equitable resource allocation
  • Data-informed leadership nationwide

Return on Investment

One platform replaces fragmented reporting, uses existing data and devices, and redirects spending to what works — a high-leverage, low-marginal-cost national asset.

Lessons Learned & Future Enhancements

  • Insight only matters if it reaches the right person, simply — UX is decisive.
  • Explainability builds the trust adoption requires.
  • Next: live data connectors, predictive models (bias-audited), and mobile briefings.
