Virtual Laboratory

Do the Science — Anywhere, by Anyone

Hands-on biology without barriers: a virtual microscope, simulations, and field studies that work on any device, support assistive technology, and never require costly equipment.

🥽 Lab Safety First

Before any investigation: follow instructions, handle equipment carefully, wash hands, never taste specimens, and report spills. These virtual labs also build the safe habits used in a physical lab.

Station 1 · Cell Biology

🔬 Virtual Microscope

Aligned to the Cells unit: observe plant & animal cell structures under low and high power.

🌿

Station 2 · Cell Biology

🧪 Enzyme Activity Simulation

Aligned to Activity of Enzymes in Cells: test how temperature affects reaction rate. Form a hypothesis, then drag the slider.

Hypothesis prompt: at what temperature will the enzyme work fastest? Predict, then test.

Notice: rate rises to a peak near 37°C (body temperature), then falls sharply as the enzyme denatures above ~50°C — and does not recover.

Station 3 · Environmental Biology

🌿 Virtual Field Study

Aligned to Mangrove/Coral/Rocky Shore units: practise field sampling and classification.

Steps

  1. Choose an ecosystem (mangrove, coral reef, rocky shore).
  2. "Place" a quadrat or run a transect.
  3. Record the organisms you observe.
  4. Classify by group and graph relative abundance.
  5. Note biotic and abiotic factors.

Observation Journal

Record your field observations (organisms, zone, conditions):

Why a virtual lab supports UDL

It removes barriers of cost, equipment, mobility, and location — every student can investigate, repeat trials safely, and learn at their own pace, with captions, keyboard access, and the accessibility toolbar.
