# Lesson Plan — Lesson 1.1: Making Inferences from Evidence

## Materials
- Short text "The Locked Door" (in Student Handout)
- Notebook or device, pencil
- Instructional video (embedded in lesson page)

## Sequence (gradual release)
1. **Hook (5 min):** Detective scenario — "Someone was just here and left in a hurry. How do they know?"
2. **Video + Direct Instruction (10 min):** "Reading Like a Detective: Making Inferences."
3. **Mini-Lesson / Think-Aloud (5 min):** Model clue → prior knowledge → inference → evidence.
4. **Guided Practice (10 min):** Class completes inference fill-ins together.
5. **Interactive/Independent (15 min):** Quiz, annotation, and "The Locked Door" inference chart.
6. **Exit Ticket (5 min):** One inference + evidence.

## Differentiation
Leveled texts, sentence stems, audio support; advanced learners infer theme / analyze a second passage.

## Assessment
Exit ticket, 3-question quiz, contribution to unit "Case File" performance task.
